This is a lot of work 2 much easier ways. 1 put a bell on the rod tip you hear the bell you have fish. 2) keep the bail open have a pop can with about 2" of water in have the rod about 1' away fro the pop can the take the line and place it over the far side of the pop can so the line is in the ridge at the top. When fish take the bait it will tip over the pop can. Both cheaper and easier.
