From Lifehacker's Tips Box, four short-cuts to life's small problems, urawaza-style:

No Iron?

Gold hair straightener beside a sink and a space-themed placemat.

If you're out an iron and you happen to have a hair straightener hanging around, it will do the trick (quite nicely). Also, works well as a dually useful traveling item, ladies. Warning: "Since the straightener doesn't create steam like an iron, you'll want to be a bit more careful, but with a quick swipe or two (and perhaps a dash of water), this'll work in a pinch."

Burnt Fingers?

Did you know? If you burn your fingers cooking, the quickest solution is to touch them to your earlobes (one of the coolest parts of your body).

Too Cold To Use Your Phone's Touchscreen?

Here's how to do it without taking your glove off:"Just pull it off enough to expose the thumb. That usually is enough to answer the phone or change some setting."

Expecting a Delivery While You're Away From the Door?

Steps leading to an entrance at night, with light illuminating the area and a snowy path.

Use FaceTime to monitor your doorstep: "Rig up a ghetto CCTV if you've got a Mac and a FaceTime compatible device. Just start a FaceTime call between your Mac and your iPhone/iPod and rest it against the window after switching the cameras around. Then when your delivery man arrives (pizza in my case) you won't be caught off guard."
